Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the free trial class work?

The free trial is a full one-to-one lesson with a TutorWick subject tutor, at no cost and with no card details required. You tell us your child’s exam board, subject, year group and the topics they find hardest; we match a tutor and schedule a time that suits you. In the session the tutor assesses your child’s current level and teaches a real topic rather than giving a sales pitch, then sends you a short written summary with a recommended learning plan.

  • How do I enroll after the trial class?

After the trial you receive a written recommendation covering the tutor, the study plan and the weekly schedule. If you would like to continue, confirm by email or WhatsApp, choose your tutor tier (Standard, Expert or Premium) and your study plan (2, 6 or 10 months), and we set up your recurring timetable. Lessons usually begin within 48 hours of confirmation.

  • How are lessons personalised for each student?

Every student starts with a diagnostic in the trial lesson that identifies the specific topics and question types where they lose marks. The tutor then builds a learning plan around those gaps rather than working through the syllabus front to back, and re-checks progress with topic tests and past-paper questions. Pace, homework volume and revision focus are adjusted every few weeks based on those results.

  • What is the duration of each tutoring session?

Standard sessions run for 60 minutes, one-to-one. Longer 90-minute sessions are available for intensive revision and full past-paper practice, and are commonly used in the final weeks of the 2-month Intensive Plan. Session length is agreed when you enrol and can be changed later as exams approach.

  • Will the tutor help with exam preparation?

Yes — exam preparation is the core of what TutorWick does. Tutors work through Cambridge, Edexcel and AQA past papers, teach mark-scheme technique so students earn method marks, run timed mock exams under exam conditions, and cover the command words and common traps that quietly cost marks. Every study plan includes past-paper practice and timed mocks.

  • What is the difference between the 2-month and 6-month study plan?

The 2-month Intensive Plan is exam-focused revision: 50 one-to-one sessions at six classes a week, 16 Cambridge past papers and 4 timed mock exams, designed for students who already know the content and need to convert it into marks. The 6-month Complete Plan works through the syllabus at a steadier three classes a week — 75 sessions, 16 past papers, 8 timed mocks and two revision checkpoints — and suits students who need to build understanding as well as exam technique.

  • How does TutorWick match a tutor to my child?

TutorWick uses the curriculum, current grade and learning priorities shared in the trial request to propose a tutor. Before continuing, families can ask for the proposed tutor's qualifications and relevant syllabus experience. Public tutor profiles remain withheld until identity, photograph and credential details are verified.

  • How often should my child attend tutoring sessions?

Two to three one-to-one sessions per week suits most students. The 10-month Mastery Plan runs at two sessions a week, the 6-month Complete Plan at three, and the 2-month Intensive Plan at six for pre-exam revision. Consistency matters more than volume — students who keep a steady weekly rhythm reliably outperform those who cram.

  • Will I receive updates about my child's progress?

Yes. Parents receive regular written progress updates covering topics taught, assessment scores, homework completion and the next areas of focus. The Premium tier includes detailed parent progress reports, Expert includes regular parent feedback, and Standard includes homework guidance and practice reviews. You can also request a call with the tutor or an academic consultant at any time.

  • What curriculum do you follow?

TutorWick teaches students according to their specific exam board and subject specification, including Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, AQA GCSE, Cambridge International A Levels, and Pearson Edexcel International A Levels (IAL).

  • Can my child join at any time of the year?

Yes — enrolment is open all year and there is no fixed intake date. Your study plan is built backwards from your child’s exam session, so a student joining in October follows a different sequence from one joining in February. If you are starting close to exams, the 2-month Intensive Plan is designed for exactly that situation.

  • How does TutorWick ensure the safety and privacy of students?

Lessons take place in TutorWick’s online classroom, tutors are verified before they teach, and parents are welcome to sit in on or review any session. Contact between tutors and students happens through the platform rather than personal accounts. Personal data is limited to what is needed to deliver lessons, is never sold, and is handled under our privacy policy.

  • Can TutorWick help with last-minute IGCSE exam prep?

Yes. The 2-month Intensive Plan exists for exactly this: six classes a week, 16 Cambridge past papers, timed mock exams in the final stretch, and a topic-priority list built from a diagnostic of where your child is actually losing marks. Book a free trial and we will tell you honestly what is achievable in the time remaining.

  • What is the teaching methodology used by TutorWick?

TutorWick uses diagnostic-led one-to-one teaching: assess first, teach the gaps, then prove the gain with past-paper questions. Each lesson follows a concept, worked example, guided practice and independent practice cycle, homework is set and marked, and topics are revisited on a spaced schedule so they survive to exam day.

  • How quickly can I see results with TutorWick?

Most parents notice a change in confidence and homework independence within three to four weeks. Measurable movement in topic-test and past-paper scores typically appears after six to eight weeks of consistent weekly sessions. The pace depends on starting level, session frequency and homework completion — your tutor reports on all three, so progress is visible rather than assumed.

  • What makes TutorWick different from other online tutoring companies?

TutorWick is an exam-focused online tutoring platform offering subject-specific tuition across Cambridge IGCSE, GCSE, O Levels, and A Levels. Your child learns with a dedicated tutor, follows a personalised study plan based on their needs, and receives structured support through concept building, exam preparation, past-paper practice, and regular progress tracking.
